Brock Webber, Adrian Zietara and Chris McFarland each had two-run hits as part of a seven-run sixth inning to help St. Ambrose to a 7-3 win at Saint Xavier in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday. Jake Mucha drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the other run in the big inning.

Limited to just two hits and trailing 3-0 through five innings, the Bee bats finally came to life.

Nate Villagomez got things started by drawing a one-out walk. He was the first of seven straight Bees to reach base. Noah McCreary and Cooper Huckabone had back-to-back hits to load the bases. Webber ripped a two-run double down the right-field line to get SAU on the board. Bryce Vincent was intentionally walked to reload the bases. Mucha drew his free pass to tie the game at 3-3. Zietara followed with a two-run single to put St. Ambrose in front. McFarland ended the scoring with a two-out two-run single.

Nick Vollmert pitched out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the bottom of the seventh to close out the win.

Vollmert picked up the win with a masterful performance out of the SAU bullpen. He allowed just three hits and struck out 10 over 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Parker Ruth started and worked the first 1 1/3 frames.

Webber collected two of the Bees' seven hits. Mike Pawyza also singled in the victory.

St. Ambrose (8-18, 3-3 CCAC) also led 7-3 in the second game before lightning and heavy rain suspended the game in the bottom of the fifth.

The Bees again trailed 3-0 before rallying. Mucha had a two-run single before ultimately scoring on a balk to tie the game in the fourth. Tyreece Morgan gave SAU the lead by scoring on a passed ball in the fifth. Webber had a sacrifice fly to score McCreary, Huckabone scored on a wild pitch and Vincent came in on a Mucha ground out as also part of the fifth inning. Conor O'Hara was in his fifth inning of work. He allowed five hits and three runs over his first 4 1/3 innings.

That game will resume at a later date with the Cougars hitting in the bottom of the fifth with a runner on first and one out.

SAU is next scheduled to play a single game at Olivet Nazarene Tuesday.
